Can youth find the solution to their own employment struggles?

According to the 'State of Working India 2023' report produced by Azim Premji University's Centre for Sustainable Employment, graduates under the age of 25 in India have the highest unemployment rate among all education levels for the same age group. Yikes! The overall unemployment rate fell from 8.7% in 2017-18 to 6.6% in 2021-22. However, the unemployment rate for graduates under the age of 25 was alarmingly high, at 42.3%. (Scroll back up for some of the opportunities we shared? We gotchu!)

Addressing a Rozgar Mela Sonowal said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the effort has been to bring mindset change in the youth – from the role of being job seekers to job creators. Self-employment and entrepreneurship are becoming popular occupational choices.” referring especially to the start-up ecosystem booming in India.

In contrast to China, where economists fear there would not be enough employees to support the expanding number of aged, CNN reported in May this year that the issue in India is that there will not be enough employment to support the growing number of workers.

What can the youth do to ensure employment for themselves and their age groups?

YIF Rewind

YIF and the Body Shop engaged with the freshers at the HLM group of institutions about the importance of voting and civic engagement! We couldn’t just talk and not put our money where our mouth is - and we registered over 500 voters at events over the week in Delhi, Jaipur, and Kota.

Campuses are the perfect ground for us to start meaningful conversations with the youth about their democratic participation.

Sound exciting? Get us on your campus, we’re one call away!
