Three states in the Northeast - Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura elected their state assembly representatives in 2023. Nagaland's Assembly has an average age of 47 years while the state's population average is 22 years. The new 60 member body welcomes its first female representatives with Hekhani Jakhalu and Salhoutuonuo Kruse serving as members of the Nagaland State Assembly. Benei M. Lamthiu, aged 40, from the Naga People's Front, is the youngest MLA in the assembly while Noke Wangnaofrom the National Democratic People's Front is the oldest at age 86. There is an age difference of over four decades between the youngest and oldest members of the Nagaland State Assembly.
The average age in the Meghalaya Assembly is 56 years, while the state's population average is 19 years. This time Meghalaya nominated and voted for a slightly younger Assembly with two successful candidates under 30. At 26, Shakliar Warjri from the Hill State People's Democratic Party and Damanbait Lamare from the National People's Party are the youngest MLA's in Meghalaya's Assembly. The oldest member in the assembly is Timothy D. Shira, also from the National People's Party who is 77 years old.
In the case of Tripura, 52 years is the average age of its assembly, while the state's population average is 29 years. Tripura nominated and voted for an older assembly this time round, with no successful candidates below the age of 30. The oldest member in Tripura's Assemly - Asoke Mitra from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is 74 years old. Sukla Charan Noatia from the Indigeneous People's Front of Tripura is the youngest MLA at age 30. Like Nagaland, the age difference between the youngest and oldest members of Tripura's new State Assembly is over four decades.
