The young in India today are better informed and equipped than ever before, thanks to advancements in technology, proliferating awareness and access to knowledge. They are passionate about bringing about meaningful change and contributing to the development of our society across the spectrum. Here's how they can take part in the country's public policy.

India, with its vast, diverse and overwhelmingly young population is undeniably a nation on the rise. The choices we make in public policy not only impact the present but also shape the future of every Indian. As someone who’s worked in the broader Policy space these past 5 years including in the Parliament and at Twitter, I’ve witnessed first-hand the criticality for increased participation of young Indians in shaping our nation's trajectory.

The young in India today are better informed and equipped than ever before, thanks to advancements in technology, proliferating awareness and access to knowledge. They are passionate about bringing about meaningful change and contributing to the development of our society across the spectrum.

Public policy influences every aspect of our lives, from education and healthcare to employment opportunities and environmental sustainability. For young Indians, these policy choices are even more critical, as they directly shape their future, careers, and lives for decades to come. By actively participating in policy discussions, young people can ensure that their perspectives, concerns, and ideas are taken into account, creating policies that align with their needs and aspirations.

It is imperative that young Indians become integral participants in forums where public policy is debated and decisions are made. Their inputs are not only valid but essential for shaping policies that reflect the diverse and evolving needs of the nation.

The youth of India are equal partners and stakeholders in the choices that determine our country's trajectory.

Their inclusion ensures that policies are inclusive, broad-minded and forward-looking.

Over the past few years, we have witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of young people entering traditionally closed-off policy-making spaces. Through their work in ministries, think tanks, the legislature, international organisations, and media, young Indians are gradually influencing policy decisions. I remember coming to New Delhi for the first time in 2019 for an internship with the Government of India, and in the time since then - the policy-making and governance space has genuinely opened its doors and evolved for the better as far as inclusion for the youth goes.

Additionally, we should invest in creating platforms and opportunities for young voices to be heard so we can enable them to contribute effectively to broader debates and deliberations on a whole host of issues. It is not enough to acknowledge the potential of young Indians; we must actively involve them in shaping our country's future. By doing so, we ensure that our policies are not only effective but also responsive to the needs of all citizens.

India's young population, with more than 50% of the country under the age of 25 represents hope, energy, and vision for a brighter future. They bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by this generation. It is imperative that we ensure systems that are receptive to the voices of young Indians, where national policy choices reflect our aspirations, and India flourishes through youth-led policymaking.
